A Kilkenny hotel has won an award from the well-known, on-line travel advice site TripAdvisor. Kilkenny’s Newpark Hotel was ranked number one in Ireland for satisfaction with regard to family stays. This is the thirteenth year that TripAdvisor has held the Travellers’ Choice Awards, which give recognition to the most outstanding establishments across various categories including luxury, romance, small and family-oriented hotels.
James Kay from TripAdvisor said that the winners of the awards are “based on the millions of reviews and opinions collected in a single year from TripAdvisor travellers worldwide. These awards recognise the finest hotels across the globe, according to those that really matter – the guests themselves.”
The four-star Newpark Hotel in Kilkenny is part of the Flynn Hotels group. The hotel has 129 bedrooms categorised into Classic, Superior, Executive and Family rooms and the Ballinamore penthouse suite. The family-friendly hotel has 29 spacious Classic and Superior family rooms which are suitable for two adults and two children. Twenty rooms are interconnecting and are suitable for families of three children and more.

Representatives from several Kilkenny hotels have recently been travelling far afield to promote the message abroad that Kilkenny City and county are places worth visiting both for business and leisure.
The Lyrath Estate Hotel recently participated at an event in London which was organised by Tourism Ireland to promote the country as a convention destination. The gathering provided the Lyrath Estate Hotel representatives with an opportunity to meet senior members of around forty top British companies involved in the corporate meetings and MICE (meetings, incentive, conferences and events) industry with a view to attracting additional conference business to Kilkenny.
The head of business and sports tourism at Tourism Ireland, David Boyce, said of the event that : “Tourism Ireland is delighted that so many of the key decision-makers from this sector took the time to attend our networking event and meet our Irish partners, demonstrating a keen interest in Ireland for conferences, events and meetings. Mr Boyce went on to say that his organisation was striving to encourage decision-makers involved in the MICE industry to include the whole of Ireland in their 2013 programmes.

Over 20 food producers from the South East recently attended a “Meet the Buyer” event that was held at the Lyrath Estate Hotel in Kilkenny. The local food producers attended the networking event at the end of April with a view to meeting buyers from major national and international companies and presenting their products to them. The event at the Kilkenny hotel was an initiative run by the Southeast Regional Inter-agency, which aimed to develop the agri-food sector in the region in line with the Irish Government’s Food Harvest 20/20strategy. Invest Kilkenny as well as other Enterprise Boards from counties Carlow, Kilkenny, South Tipperary, Waterford City, Waterford County and Wexford were involved in the event.
During the event the producers were able to showcase their products directly to the buyers, who could personally review their product ranges and offer advice on packaging and presentation as well as discussing potential deals. Some of the Kilkenny firms taking part included Highbank Orchards, Kells Wholemeal and Oldtown Hill Bakehouse.
